Fake bags seller beat EB officers in Burrabazar during raid, 2 arrested

Enforcement Branch (EB) officers were attacked in Burrabazar, Kolkata, while attempting to apprehend individuals involved in the sale of counterfeit bags. The incident led to significant tension in the market area. Police intervened to restore order and arrested two people in connection with the assault.

According to sources, a business was operating by selling bags that were imitations of well-known brands. These counterfeit bags featured copied logos of these famous brands and were being sold at the same wholesale price as the genuine articles. The Enforcement Branch had received complaints about this illegal activity for several months.

Acting on these complaints, Enforcement Branch officials conducted a raid in Burrabazar this afternoon. During the raid, the EB officials were allegedly obstructed in their duties. This obstruction led to a confrontation between the officials and the traders involved in the counterfeit business.

Eyewitnesses reported that the situation escalated, resulting in a physical altercation between the two groups. The accused traders are alleged to have severely beaten two Enforcement Branch officials. The assault left the EB officers injured and further heightened the tension in the area.

Following the incident, a formal complaint was filed at the Burrabazar police station. Police have taken swift action, and it has been reported that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack on the Enforcement Branch officers.
